The United States and China are the world’s two largest economies in GDP terms. As such, the economic relationship between the two countries has a significant impact not only on their overall bilateral relationship but also on the global economy.

Wang Jiarui, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and a top advisor to the Chinese leadership on foreign policy, will deliver a speech on China and the United States – Building a Mutually Beneficial Trade and Economic Relationship. Wang will lead a delegation of senior CPC officials to Dallas as part of a week-long visit to the United States for the 4th U.S.-China High-Level Political Party Leaders Dialogue with prominent Democrats and Republicans. Organized by the EastWest Institute and the International Department of the CPC, the Dialogue was established to build understanding and trust between political elites from the United States and China through an exchange of views on governance and foreign policy issues.

Prior to his current position, Minister Wang served as Vice Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC (IDCPC) and was promoted to Minister of the IDCPC in March 2003. He was elected deputy to the 9th National People’s Congress in 1998, alternate member of the 16th Central Committee of the CPC in 2002 and member of the 17th Central Committee of the CPC in 2007.

Concurrently, he serves as a Ph.D. student tutor of industrial economics in the Business Administration School of Fudan University and a professor at Guanghua Business Administration School of Peking University. He is also a Doctor of economics.

VThe IDCPC is a functional body of the CPC, responsible for the party’s international exchanges and communications with foreign political parties and organizations. The department is tasked with implementing China’s open-up policy and developing the country’s overall strategy of state diplomacy.
